How To Make Wafer Paper Flowers For Your Cakes 🌸

If you're looking to bring a fresh, spring-inspired touch to your edible creations, look no further than these stunning Wafer Paper flowers. In this tutorial, Denise (@denises_delights_) shows us how to use paper2eat 0.30 mm Wafer Paper Standard to create delicate, layered blooms, perfect for topping cakes, cupcakes, and more!

Materials Needed:

  • paper2eat 0.30 mm Wafer Paper Standard

  • Paper punch or Cricut machine with food-safe mat (2 inches and 1.5 inches)

  • Ziplock bag

  • Luster dust (color of your choice)

  • Small dish of water

  • Cookie cutter or small cup (to use as a form)

Step 1: Cut Out Your Petals

Using your a paper punch, which you can easily find at craft stores, punch out circles from your paper2eat Wafer Paperin two sizes: 2 inches and 1.5 inches. If you happen to have a Cricut, start by placing your sheets on a food-safe mat, and proceed to cut them. (The sheets in the reel above were not going to be eaten, so a basic light grip mat was used for the video.) Vinyl and Bonded Fabric are popular settings when it comes to cutting our edible paper.

Step 2: Add Color

Place your Wafer Paper circles into a ziplock bag along with a bit of luster dust. Gently shake the bag to evenly coat the circles and create a beautiful ombré effect. This is a mess-free way to add dimension and shimmer to each petal.

Step 3: Shape the Petals

Lightly dab a small amount of water in the center of each circle, then fold it in half. The water helps soften the paper and hold the shape. Be careful not to use too much, just enough to make it pliable.

Step 4: Build the Flower

Place a cookie cutter on your work surface and begin forming a ring of petals by overlapping each folded circle slightly around the inner edge. Once the first ring is complete, begin a second layer, positioning the petals in between the gaps of the first layer. Keep building until your flower feels full.

Step 5: Finish and Fluff

Flip the whole flower over to admire the full shape. Carefully remove the cookie cutter mold. If you notice any sparse areas, take extra Wafer Paper petals, moisten them slightly, and tuck them into the gaps for a more even, lush appearance.

These Wafer Paper flowers are light, elegant, and endlessly customizable. Try different luster dust shades, sizes, or even add a touch of edible glitter for extra sparkle. Happy decorating!
