Never use edible ink in a printer that ever had regular ink running through! Contamination may occur!  It is strongly recommended to use edible ink in edible ink cartridges only. If you use a brand new inkjet printer for edible ink printing you should only use it with edible ink cartridges from the very start and never install regular ink cartridges and / or never refill regular ink into your edible ink cartridges!

The cartridges that this printer is compatible with (280/281 series cartridges) are only available as non-indicating refillable cartridges. When you first install this cartridge, it may or may not light up. With some printer models you may hear a beep when installed. You will still be able to print even though the indicator light may not be on. Once you refill the cartridge and install it back into the printer the indicator light on the cartridge may not light up. The cartridge will still continue to work. Once you install the cartridge a message may appear saying that you installed a cartridge that is not a genuine Canon cartridge. This is due to the fact that edible ink uses its own compatible cartridges which sometimes vary more or less to the genuine Canon cartridges depending on the printer model / cartridge series.

In this case the printer may recognize that the installed cartridge is not a genuine Canon cartridge. You will then be asked to acknowledge the use of this non-genuine Canon cartridge and that you understand and agree Canon will not be liable for any malfunction that has been caused by the use of a non-genuine Canon cartridge. Additionally, you may see a message requiring you to disable the function for detecting the ink level in your cartridge. Therefore it is necessary that you inspect the ink levels manually as you will not be able to see the ink levels on the printer or your computer.
